Dear Howard, I read with the usual top interest your article on S&T, June issue and literally jumped in the chair when I learnt of your new f2.7 thirty incher! Hope you will describe it on S&T but I would really appreciate a little foretaste because I am part of a group of die-hard visual observers chatting on of a forum named: "Dobsonians" and we are now negotiating to buy a big dob in co-ownership. We are oriented to be cautious about the focal ratio because of the notorious increasing difficulty in getting state of the art big mirrors with fast focal ratios. Members of the initiative are crazy about high resolution (planetary freaks). Is your primary figured starting from a meniscus blank? Did it turn out diffraction limited? Was it custom made by an amateur or by a commercial firm? Hope not being too intrusive, but I highly value your experience and opinion. Sincerely, Lorenzo Burti, Verona, Italy

Hi Lorenzo,
Here's a page on my website that describes the 30-inch f/2.7 scope - with links to all my scopes:
https://sites.google.com/site/howardbanichhomepage/homeClicking on the link in the 30-inch description will take you to this page:
https://sites.google.com/site/howardbanich...-a-30-inch-f2-7, where you'll also find a video of my presentation about the scope given at the October 2022 Alt-Az Workshop. I think this information will answer your questions.
I'll just add that the 30-inch f/2.7 meniscus mirror (made by Mel Bartles) is the finest mirror I've ever had!
Howard
